Palm Creek Brahmans

Our Family and Values

  • The Chiesa Story

The Chiesa's originated from Northern Italy when Nonno (grandfather), Luigi settled in the township of Ingham in North Queensland after the second world war. Sponsored out by his Zio (uncle) Cerutti, he paid off his debt by working in the Cerutti Bakery. Once this was achieved, he became a Cane Cutter then a Cane Farmer. Their cattle journey started when 4 generations ago with Nonna's family the Palman's, who were also cane farmers, had milking cows running in Palm Creek to keep the rat population down. This reduced the loss of cane and minimised weil's disease which affected the health of the cane cutters.

In 1979 Teitzel's Farm and Butcher Shop was purchased, the name was changed, Chiesa & Sons Butchery and my uncle, Mario started operating the shop. He's still there 40 years later. Veal was the big seller, especially in an Italian based town, so they were crossbreeding Limousine, Charolais, Santa Gertudis etc and producing 150kg carcass calves off mum. Eventually, we needed to start keeping the progeny as the veal trade slowed and realised the Brahman breed was needed for ease of management on the coast.

Nowadays the family uses their own grass-fed Brahman heifers for the shop, they grade MSA at the accredited MSA slaughterhouse, Bingil Bay Beef. My love of cattle has come from watching the family journey with cattle as a young boy and knew that it was something that I would want to continue doing in the future.

  • The Bush Story

corporate their sons who then expanded the business into bananas, sugar cane and beef cattle. I have grown up surrounded with cattle and have loved the lifestyle that comes with it.

My mum first introduced me to Stud cattle where we would break them in and parade at shows. I loved getting to know each animal and learning there personalities. Living on the land is something that I also knew I would remain doing, and I am grateful that I have been able to do it and raise my own children in the same environment.

  • Our Family

We are the Chiesa Family (Key-yeah-za)

We, Peter and Mariah Chiesa, along with our children, Elin, Halle and Enzo. Own and operate Palm Creek Brahmans. We have a passion for breeding cattle and producing the best beef possible. We love the land and our aim is to regenerate and look after the land for future generations to come.

Brahmans choose themselves, as they are highly adapted and suited to our environment. With their genetic adaptations, they provide a high heat and humidity tolerance, parasite resistance and general ability to perform in nutritionally deficient times. They align with our vision to create a cleaner greener beef reducing chemicals in our environment, lowering inputs and cost of production and we admire their ability to convert grass into beef at a more efficient rate than other breeds.

The great Australian story behind

Hinchinbrook's pasture raised beef.

Palm Creek Brahmans is a Stud and Commercial cattle operation located around the beautiful lush landscape of the Hinchinbrook Shire. Our main focus is on breeding quality and easy going temperament Bulls. We on sell these bulls to other cattle operations in various locations around Queensland. We have a love for the land and our animals. Our Stud was established in 2004 by 14 year old Peter Chiesa, from humble beginnings it has now grown out to 150 Brahman Stud cows along with Commercial breeders. It is now owned and operated by Peter and Mariah Chiesa.

The Chiesa family has been in the Hinchinbrook region for 3 generations, Peter's love for the land has been passed down from growing up in the family business, grazing cattle, growing sugar cane and other crops. This lifestyle growing up has instilled a deep appreciation and passion for the land, from mustering cattle on weekends to supplying to the family butcher shop, to learning how to grow and produce crops in turn teaching us the importance of soil health and the larger scale effects of the eco system around us.

We have a strong focus on looking after our country, maintaining lush pastures by regenerating our country through holistic management, in return we are left with lush growing pastures as our country looks after us and our cattle.
